Meet Dione

Welcome to my practice!

I am Dione Rábago, I use she/her pronouns and am a licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years experience and expertise in the Mental Health field. My career has spanned a variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals and community programs. I have served  as a Psychotherapist; a medical, Hospice and NICU Social Worker and Community Organizer. I have also worked in Social Welfare Policy and various Program Development teams. I have worked with people from all walks of life, aged minutes old through the elderly, of every ability and identity, across the United States.

I am honored to be working with Veterans at the VA for the last 12 years, addressing complex issues including homelessness, PTSD and substance use disorders. I am a VA certified Mindfulness teacher, with a nearly 30 year personal Insight (Vipassana) meditation practice. I offer mindfulness teachings and practice to Veterans weekly.

I’m a Filipina American, proud granddaughter and daughter of immigrants. I also have many sides to my identity, as a musician, an NYU scholar, an International House alumna, occasional middle distance runner, gluten free foodie, international wanderer, musical theatre kid and Reiki Master. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now live in Southwest Washington State, with my super sweet, 8 year old Australian Shepherd, Jack.

VALUES AND THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

  • I believe that each human being deserves the chance to make changes, regardless of what has transpired in their lives, with dignity and respect, with the compassionate, collaborative support from a Therapist who is non-judgmental and culturally competent.

  • I am most passionate about empowering people who are ready to address and set aside barriers that keep them from achieving their biggest goals and dreams, by providing expert guidance along the journey toward self-discovery and healing.

  • There is no shame in exploring who you are and gaining a deeper understanding of your identity - gender, sexuality, values, faith and spirituality, culture and race.

  • I will meet you where you are, just as you are, in this moment. And to let you know that your lived experience is valid and important.

  • There is no greater gift you can give yourself than the freedom that comes living in alignment with you values and your truth - in mind, body and soul. Therapy is an investment in time and resources. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that makes sense for your life and your future. There are many assessments and tools that I will use to help you track the progress you will be making along the way.

  • My style is collaborative, conversational, empathetic, at times instructional, yet direct. This is YOUR time and journey. And while my job is to listen and hear you, and help you with creating a path through whatever issue it is that is challenging for you, I am not here to offer rainbows and butterflies, nor sugarcoat things. Rather, I will guide you, with proven interventions, through even the toughest parts of this path, as this is all part of the journey.

  • The results that come from our work together will be anchored in evidence-based, trauma-informed, strengths-based, client-centered care, expertly delivered with compassion and respect.

  • LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT: I acknowledge, with humility, that my physical office in the Southwest Washington Region, is the ancestral home of many indigenous peoples including the Cowlitz, Chinook, Klickitat, Yakima, Grand Ronde, Wasco and Wishram. I also acknowledge that my physical office in the San Francisco Bay Area is the ancestral home of the Ohlone and Miwok peoples. I acknowledge the resilience of these nations at the hands of oppressive institutions, whose policies and practices aimed to erase the culture and language of their peoples and to forcibly remove them from their land. I acknowledge I am part of this ongoing, oppressive system, and desire to contribute toward the restoration of dignity and integrity of the well being of my indigenous siblings in my communities.
